AI has long been an ethereal, cloud-based system, far removed from our immediate reality. But times are changing. AI is starting to come for our homes, filling our bedrooms with intelligent bots that help us fall asleep or assist us in solving complex problems.
The OpenAI's acquisition of Io and investment in AI-centric hardware solutions indicates a shift towards making AI more accessible, understandable, and convenient to use. But for the masses to enjoy the full benefits of AI, there's one more step: the hardware must be open.
When hardware is "open," it means the design, specifications, and manufacturing processes are available to the public. In contrast, 'closed' systems are costly and proprietary, usually only available to a few who can afford it.
