Elder - Lore (2015): A Journey Through Heavy Psychedelic Rock
Elder is a three-piece band from Boston, USA, that plays a unique blend of heavy rock, doom, prog and krautrock. Their third album, Lore, released in 2015, is a masterpiece of epic and atmospheric music that takes the listener on a voyage through uncharted territories of sound.
Lore consists of five songs, each one a story in itself, unfolding and undulating across different moods and genres. The album opens with "Compendium", a 10-minute instrumental that showcases the band's ability to create dynamic and captivating soundscapes. The title track, "Lore", follows with a 16-minute odyssey that combines crushing riffs, melodic passages and psychedelic twists. The third song, "Deadweight", is a shorter but heavier track that delivers a punch of doom metal with some progressive elements. The fourth song, "Spirit at Aphelion", is another long and complex piece that explores various influences from krautrock to classic rock. The album closes with "Legend", a 15-minute epic that sums up the band's vision and style, ending with a triumphant and soaring finale.
Lore is a highly recommended album for fans of heavy and progressive music, as well as for anyone who appreciates original and creative rock. Elder has proven to be one of the most interesting and innovative bands in the scene, and Lore is their magnum opus.

Elder has a rich and diverse history as a band, starting from their humble beginnings in Massachusetts to their current status as one of the leading acts in the psychedelic rock scene. The band was formed in 2006 by Nick DiSalvo, Chas Mitchell and Matt Couto, who were influenced by bands like Sleep, Electric Wizard and Black Sabbath. They released their first split album with Queen Elephantine in the same year, followed by their self-titled debut LP in 2008, which showcased their heavy and fuzzy sound.
In 2011, Elder released their second album, Dead Roots Stirring, which marked a shift towards a more progressive and melodic direction. The album received critical acclaim and established the band as a force to be reckoned with in the stoner/doom metal scene. The band also signed with Stickman Records, a label that would support their artistic vision and growth. In 2012, Elder released two EPs: Demos & Live, which featured rare and live tracks, and Spires Burn / Release, which contained two songs that further expanded their sonic palette.
In 2015, Elder released their third album, Lore, which was a breakthrough for the band both commercially and artistically. The album was praised by fans and critics alike for its complex and captivating compositions that blended heavy riffs, psychedelic atmospheres and progressive structures. Lore was also the first album to feature Jack Donovan on bass, who replaced Chas Mitchell in 2008. The band toured extensively in support of Lore, playing at prestigious festivals like Roadburn, Psycho Las Vegas and Desertfest.
